Berndt; beloved husband of the late Mary; loving father of Eileen Gross and Kevin; cherished grandfather of Noah and Brigid; fond brother of Dennis and Mary Ann Mallahan; dear son of the late George and Anna; great companion of Patricia Smith. Grew up on Chicago’s westside with a great bunch of friends. Worked as a Chicago Police Officer for 37 years with some of the finest men and women in the city. Loved to play handball with a great group of guys at the Edens A.C. and YMCA. Funeral Tuesday 9:30 AM from Gibbons Funeral Home 5917 W. Irving Park RD. to St. Tarcissus Church. Mass 10 AM.
