I was so shocked to see and hear about this , my family adored him and how he took care of their posse of dogs, he also took care of my cats as well. I am so sorry for the families loss , also all the animals and the community he served have also suffered a loss as well . With my deepest sympathy, Kris and Taras Tchoryk, and on behalf of my late parents Pat and Steve Walenga

I don’t know what we will do without you. You cared for many of our family pets for the past 40 years. You were so loving, caring and gentle with our animals. You came up with alternative procedures and surgeries. To take care of unique issues with our pets. We trusted your judgment and advice and you never steered us wrong. You will be greatly missed and I can only hope I can find another vet who is nearly as wonderful as you were. We are thankful to have had you care for our pets for so long. God bless you.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. D’s family and to the ACE staff! He gave excellent care to our Wrigley and Pia. His compassion and concern for pets and owners was brought home when it was time to relieve Wrigley’s suffering. A trusted and caring vet is a treasure for owners. He also chose staff who were also caring and compassionate. Thank you, Dr. D. You will be greatly missed.

Dr. Dougherty was an amazing vet and a compassionate man. I’m devastated that he’s moved on. But I’m sure that more than a few of his former patients greeted him when—like them—he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.😥

Dr. Dougherty was a dedicated, caring thorough professional not common to his field. In my few encounters with this gentleman I was in awe of his kindness & sincere generosity with his time when treating an injured or sick pet like it was one of his own. Dr. Dougherty will not be forgotten as one true dependable guy in the Portage Park community for many yrs to come. My prayers go out to Dr. Dougherty & his family during this difficult time. Dr. Dougherty was the best! He was so kind and compassionate. Our little Muffy was cared for by him. He saved her life with emergency surgery one time. Then at the end, he was keeping her overnight to run tests but felt something amiss. He came downstairs to sit with her so she wasn’t alone and she died in his arms. He cried with us when we came to say our goodbyes. Thank you and rest in peace Dr. D.

What a sad day in Portage pk. I haven’t stop crying since I got the news. Dr. D and I had quite a few moments with Miss Happi. He knew the pain we went through with thyroid disease. We both cried the day we said goodbye to her. God bless. My deepest condolences to Debbie, Maureen , and the rest of the staff and family.

My pup was a long time patient of Dr. D. He met her when she was a puppy and continued to care for her with such compassion and profession along with his team as she grew. Dr. D was my FAVORITE vet. I trusted and respected him. He was very kind and funny. I spoke to him but a few months ago. Though him and the staff may not have known at the time, their compassionate services helped my family in times when we were financially struggling yet they still cared for my dog. He always helped and took care of our loved fur baby. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to the Doughtery family. Your loved one was a friend to many and he will leave nothing short of a grand mark on this earth. Our biggest hugs to the family. The Dougherty name is worthy of the label “unlimited kindness”. May your hearts heal.

I regret only seeing this news upon checking to make an appointment for one of our pet’s annual visits. We are not on Facebook.
Ace Animal Hospital has been our only vet hospital, for over 40 years. Showing what a terrific Veterinarian/man Dr. Dougherty was, he will be sorely missed. ;(
