Linda Winters, 87, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Linda was born in Chicago on May 15, 1939, to Nils and Emily, who were of Norwegian descent. She took great pride in her Norwegian heritage and cherished the many years she spent hosting beloved cousins from Norway in her home.
Linda retired from the Irving Bank, later known as Banco Popular, after 40 years of dedicated service. She had a love of oil painting, and many of her favorite works were displayed throughout her home. She also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, gardening, spending time with family and traveling with friends.
Above all, Linda was a devoted mother and a loyal friend whose kindness touched everyone who knew her. She was incredibly caring and generous, always putting others before herself and offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. She will be remembered for her warm smile, giving heart, and the love and compassion she shared so freely with her family and friends. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Linda is survived by her children, Deborah and Herb; her cousin, Elizabeth; her nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and former co-workers. A special thank you to Mariya, Linda’s wonderful caregiver for over a year. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herb, in 1994, and by her parents, Nils and Emily.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gibbons Family Funeral Home, 5917 W. Irving Park Road (½ block East of Austin Avenue). A memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery will take place at a later date.

It was an absolute privilege to have known Linda! Not only did I work with her at the Irving Bank for a time but I have also had the honor of having being a close friend of her daughter Debbie, to this day. Ive gone on 2 cruises with Linda and Debbie and have wonderful memories of those times. Linda was truly one of the most genuinely warm, gracious and upbeat people I have ever met. Ive never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. She was always a ray of sunshine and I will miss her beautiful, smiling face!
My deepest condolences to Debbie, Herb and everyone that knew and loved Linda 💗 🙏
